You can find here the detailed description of the program:
1. Name of teacher training
Teach with film! – the practical use of documentaries in public education
2. Justification for teacher training, brief description
Documentary films are authentic, reality-based narratives that present first-hand accounts and different points of view, encouraging curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking in students, which are essential in the digital age. In addition, they are capable of initiating debates, arousing empathy, and encouraging social awareness and action among students. Documentary films can be used as teaching aids to discuss various social issues and problems in the classroom.
During the training, participants will learn about the documentary film genre and the mechanisms of the impact of documentary films, as well as the importance of fieldwork in understanding the topics presented in the film. The training aims to explore how the emotional impact of film can be made visible and transformed into activities using various artistic methods and sociodrama, which facilitate deeper understanding and emotional processing.
The significance of further training lies in its potential to initiate a discourse that combines film art and drama teaching, and together these two disciplines can offer a novel approach for teachers in all fields.
3. The aim of teacher training
The aim of the continuing education program on documentary films is to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge of the documentary film genre and its theoretical and practical applications in education. By the end of the training, participants will be able to integrate documentaries into their lessons in a targeted manner and apply teaching practices that promote the development of students’ critical thinking and emotional intelligence.
A further aim is for teachers to learn how to apply interdisciplinary approaches and to become familiar with techniques that can increase students’ motivation for experience-based learning.
